How to really delete an app?

If I delete an app on my iPhone, the next time I sync it with my Mac it just comes right back. That's really irritating. Is that it then? If you want to really delete an app, you have to delete it from your iPhone, iPad, etc. and Mac before syncing again?

Sounds like you have that crappy 'Automatic downloads' feature enabled in iTunes. Basically you buy an app on your iPhone so it automatically downloads to your mac and other devices, but then if you delete it, you still have it in your iTunes library so when you sync with iTunes it comes straight back. That feature annoys the crap out of me. I disabled automatic downloads on all my devices.
