How to record sound onto 2011 Macbook air

Hey all,

I have some music ideas created on my iphone 4S, kaossilator, DS, other various sources and of course guitars that I would like to record onto my 2011 MBA 11".

What is the best way to do this? Would an iRig work on the macbook air (for guitar at least?) I know the input is similar to the one used on the iphone.

Not looking for a crazy setup. Don't need studio quality or anything, just for some ideas.

In theory...

However I never got it to work properly - the record input just kept pausing/playing iTunes (or opening iTunes if it was closed) in an irregular pattern, and would not record to garage band or similar. It has been suggested to me that a mono input may solve that problem - but I've not had a chance to try that yet!

Lots of people just use simple USB interfaces!
