THIS MAY BE IN THE WRONG FORUM SO PLEASE MOVE IT IF IT IS.

I purchased a macbook about 3 months ago after my previous windows laptop's hard drive having mechanical problems which later led to motherboard damage and the laptop not turning on. The hard drive was deemed unrecoverable but i just recently realised i still have the backup on my portable hard drive. It all seems too complicated for me and is all in .zip files which doesn't really mean much to me. I was wondering if there was anyway to recover these files on my macbook?

Thanks in advance for any help. Questions welcome

i understand i can open them like that but they are full of technical jargon in documents, i was wondering more about pictures and music?
