I used a toothpick, slid it against the bottom edge of the button pushing inward and upward until it started peeling. Once it started, I slid my nail under the button and pulled it off. Afterwards I cleaned the button off with rubbing alcohol just in case any sticky residue from the back of the button was there and I was done
Just a note, I'd avoid using anything sharp, you'll be begging to scratch the home button with it.
