When I open PDF in preview.app I like 2 page viewing and also keep a pages.app open next to it for taking notes. the problem is that grey border makes the preview take up too much space my screen is not big enough to have both open side by side without overlap. how to get rid of useless border?

Do you mean the Sidebar?

Just resize the window then. In case you're really new to Macs, that's done by dragging the bottom right corner of the window. The gray border will shrink as the window approaches the size of the image.

Thanks for the reply and picture. I was able to remove the sidebar, I am referring to the grey border surrounding your red image. I want the window to be no bigger than the document basically.

To resize to fit the content go to the View menu and select either "Automatically Resize or Actual Size" then click on the Green button.
