Ok, if I go into Launchpad....and hold Option.....everything wiggles, but only the Mac App store apps have a (x) to remove them.

Any ideas?

This is a known issue at the moment; if you go into the traditional "Applications" folder and delete from there; it will not re-appear on Launch pad. I'm sure this will be fixed soon .....

Is there a way to hide applications on the Launchpad without physically deleting them, as I have loads of little apps showing that I use rarely and it would be nice to have a clutter-free launchpad.

I moved them into a folder named 'Crap" and stuck it on the last window.

Yeah, if it's a bug then that's ok....but I'm not about to start deleting apps to not get them to show up in Launchpad.

Folder? You could put those into a folder.

The only way to remove things from Launchpad is to delete them at the moment.

The best solution other than that is hide all of the apps you don't want to see in a folder.

I'm just about to do this too. Somehow if this 'bug' is not fixed I think we shall be seeing a lot of 'crap folder' analogies on teh inter tubes.

"My iMac has a dead pixel what should I do?" "Put it in a folder called 'crap' and hide it under your bed!"

Abobe CS comes with a lot of 'crap' (Adobe Reader, Device Manager, Extension Manager etc) which I don't want to be appearing all over Launchpad. Along with uninstaller icons galore. I want to be able to 'hide' these icons like you can hide photos in iPhoto. Simple!

Agree I would use launch pad instead of the dock if there was a way to remove apps that I didn't want to show up. Seems like this would be a no brainer of a feature so I'm not sure why it is the way it is.

I found this on the Apple forum: Go to Finder/Applications and look for a folder labeled Applications. This is all the applications that were in Snow Leopard. I'm not sure, but I guess the installer made this folder. Once you drag this folder to the trash and reboot, Launchpad will update and there won't be any more duplicates. Worked for me.:)

The X button on App Store apps doesn't remove the icon, it deletes the entire app by deleting its bundle from the Applications folder. This isn't offered for non-App Store apps because the system cannot be sure that this is the correct way of uninstalling them (there might be an uninstaller app itself as with most Adobe software, etc)

The settings for LaunchPad seem to be stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Dock , but I couldn't see a clear way of hiding icons there.

Wouldn't launchpad be better if it were just used like the Dock? Aliases of icons that we could add/remove/organize as we see fit? Removing of icons wouldn't delete the app......it would just be a way of organizing app icons?

I can see myself never using Launchpad as is. Way to much clutter and no control.

I personally agree, but I suspect what Apple wants is to give novice users a way of accessing every app on the machine without having to use the Finder.

(Oh, and grr, why can't you drag groups onto the Dock? They put pop-out folders on the Dock explicitly to help organise it so why not reuse that functionality?)
