How to remove iPad from my Apple ID?

I recently sold me iPad 2 and the person I sold it to is asking me to remove from my iTunes account so that they can register it under their own Apple ID.

How do I un-register it from my ID so that the other person is able to register it as their own?

Settings -> General -> Erase all content and settings

Its not quite as simple as that as its only half of whats required.

Go into iTunes and into your store account settings.
Click on Manage devices
Remove the ipad from your list

Wipe the ipad as stated above.

I never checked that option before and now see I currently have 12 former devices (iPads & iPhones) associated with my iTunes account and only 3 are current (2 iPhones and 1 iPad). Since they all have the same name it's not easy to determine which is the correct one. I guess the auth date is the main clue. Aside from that, does it really matter once you log out of your account on the iDevice? No one can use the account anyway (unless of course they have your password). No one has complained to me about the 9 previous devices I have sold.

Not sure why it would make a difference for the new buyer of the device as long as the original owner is logged out of Itunes on the iPad being sold.

Not saying it is a bad idea, just wondering if it really matters.
