I have a 2TB external hard drive that is being used for time machine backups as well as other data. I would like to delete the backups.backupdb folder because I will be using a new external hard drive for backups.

Any guides on how I go about this? I do want to reformat the whole drive as I will lose the rest of my data on the drive.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

I strongly recommend you perform a full backup on the new drive ***before*** deleting the backups.backupdb on the old drive. This way, Time Machine knows where its new destination is from that point forward. Also, if something goes terribly wrong with backing up to that new drive, you still have your old backup to fall on. Having multiple backups for a short time is always better than having none for that short time.
