I havew an iphone 4 it was upgraded to Ios5 on a friends computer but not backed up, i then plugged it into my computer and it automaicly back up. I need to restore it to a older back up any ideas? Thanks

Top two links from putting "iphone restore from backup" into Google are:

iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
iOS: How to back up

On the second link, click "How to restore from a backup" and it says:
To restore information from a backup, use one of the following methods after connecting your iOS device to the computer with which you normally sync:
  • Right-click (or Control-click) the device and choose Restore from Backup
  • If you have a new phone, you can connect to iTunes and it will prompt to restore from your backup

Unless you have Time Machine or used some other way to save the old backup, the new backup would have over wrote it.

If you have time machine, then you can restore the old backup.

No it should be easy to restore from a previous Firmware version iPhone backup that was on the OP's Mac or PC.

If you do multiple backups at the same Firmware level then, yes the data is overwritten.

iPhone Backup Location for Mac OS X
in Mac OS X your iPhone files are backed up at the following location:

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

The (~) symbol signifies your home directory, which is the same place all your other personal documents are stored.

iPhone Backup Location for Windows 7, XP, and Vista
Windows XP stores all of your iPhone backup files in this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Windows Vista and Windows 7 backs up the iPhone files to here:

C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Obviously if your main drive is not C: then you’ll have to change that, same goes for ‘user’

I have the same problem. I backed up my old iPhone 3gs, and my new iPhone 4 does not have option "Restore from Backup" when I right click on the Device.

The backup is shown in iTunes Prefferences->Devices

I am on Mac. Please help
