how to restore photos

I made a back up using Back Up this past spring. I had to reinstall OSX after a crash a few weeks ago. I want to restore my photos from Back Up.

I insert the DVD I made the back up on and get the back up menu, but when the items come up, the Restore button doesn't light up, so I can't Restore. How do I go about doing this???
