How to retain old imessages?

I want to upgrade to the iPhone 6s, but want to retain all my old imessages from my iPhone 5. I already backed my phone up in iTunes. Just wondering if that will suffice?

I also have whatsapp and want to retain all messages and photos from that app as well.

Will Apple icloud have the ability to restore all that information?

It should restore your iMessages and all app data when you perform a restore from iTunes/iCloud.

I manually did a clean install when I got my 6s, and wish there was a way to selectively restore iMessage texts and group messages from iCloud.

Make sure to back up WhatsApp separately in it's settings.
