How to retrieve files (not backups) from old 1st gen timecapsule?

I have been using a new TC for a few months and want to retrieve saved files (not the old back ups) from old TC. When I try and open the old TC I get, "the operation cannot be completed because the original item "myname" cannot be found. I am connecting with ethernet. My MBP is running 10.8.2
