I like to download pdfs of certain news pieces I read and stick them in my archives for future reference offline.
But, a lot of pages now, say tech blogs for instance, dont even bother with a print button. I dont want to download a whole web page, and using print off the browser to a pdf may not work out very well depending on how the page is constructed.
So I end up pasting the permalink, if there is one, into a document or some note file in a clutter-gatherer app like Yojimbo or Circus Ponies Notebook etc., and then try to clip out and paste into that note page the text of the article or at least part of it that I found most interesting. This more or less works but I'd rather have the pdf file (or text file) loose in my archives, not in some more restrictive proprietary format. And I'd like to be as simple as clicking to print and selecting pdf for the output.
I dont just want a bookmark. I want the content and the permalink and to be able to read it offline.
I dunno. Is there something that will force the equivalent of a print-to-pdf even if the site page doesnt offer a print button, or do I just have to save the page as a web page or else keep on using clipping service to Circus Ponies or Yojimbo?
