How to scan a document to true size? (of original document?)

Whenever I scan a document, it auto-selects either the tilted image (if the original was tilted) or just boxes the tilted mass of text. How can I get it to select the entire paper itself automatically? That way when I print the scanned image of a document it prints with the same border spaces or whatever as there was on the ORIGNAL document?

edit: Nevermind, answered my own question.. I had it to 'set custom size' on accident.. deselected that and clicked 'letter'
