Hey guys, just wanting to know if there is any good free software out there to screen capture flash video, kind of like say a youtube clip, except its not on a youtube server but a similar kind of thing, I want to be able to record it straight to the hard drive and save it as a file ?

If I've understood you correctly, file2hd will do what you want.
Enter the url of the page, select video files, agree to the terms and conditions and select "get files"; you can then save the video from the list that is returned.

What browser are you using?

If you are using firefox it is dead simple.

1. Get the "down load helper" plug-in for firefox ----(FREE from firefox website. This will let you save at clip as a intact .FLV file into a download folder.)

2. Go to the site where the clip is and play it. -----You MUST let the whole clip download into your computer's cache (e.g in youtube i.e let semi-opaque the bar get to the end)

3. Open the download folder (the plugin's download folder not the OS X one on the dock, [to find it just click on the add-on'd icon on firefox's tool bar]) and drag the .FLV file to where ever you want it.

3. export the FLV file to a more usable format. Done. e.g export to MP4 using handbrake . (several ripping programs will load .FLV, but handbrake is FREE and simple, and with youtube size clips, not too slow

should take only a minute to do.

what if it's all embedded?

Hi, many of the tips and tricks you all mentioned are useful, but there are some sites that seem impossible to grab. Usually they are ".tv" sites, like this:
http://www.bassplayer.tv (if you navigate to any of the videos on the menu and play them, you will notice that they seem to be embedded in some kind of flash application and impossible to download)
While -of course- all the crappy advertisements around the videos are easily downloadable...

...any suggestions?

Thanks

A'
