this is a problem that may happen to anyone whose computer is stolen or needs replacement.
Time Machine uses the MAC adress to recognize its attached computer, which can change in any of the circumstances above.
Recreating the user and reassociating the Time Machine partition to TM is not enough, since TM doesn't see any previous saves, which precludes manual restoration.
How can I, once system is installed, restore from a previous save AND allow subsequent saves to resume from the last save, the same we used to restore the documents? Migration Assistant does a poor job when setup is non-standard, such as using one partiton for the OS and apps, and another for user files, and reports the user files as...0KB.
