Is it possible to see the current file transfer speed when copying/moving files from the internal hdd to an external hdd ?

you can look at the disk activity pane of the activity monitor app. :)

Thanks for the reply.
But it only says the read/write speed of the main HDD instead of the USB file transferring speed right?

I think it will display the read speed from the HDD and the write speed to the USB drive. I am not positive but I seem to recall this behavior when I tried to do what you're trying to do.

I assume you can't write to a USB drive faster than you can read the data ;)
