are you referring to the integrated graphics vs. the discrete video card? i dont know that there is a 512 to 256 vram setting.

I have no idea what you are talking about but, if you want to know how to switch between GPU's, you do it under energy savings prefs.

yes GPU setting 256 to 512mb HOW?

yes that what i am talking about to set 256mb to 512mb or switch back 512mb to 256mb GPU yes... thanks for help and how?

Just so you know, you have either a 512MB GPU or a 256MB GPU depending on the model of MBP you have. You do not have both.

The NVIDIA 9400 is an integrated chip that shares memory with the main memory.

You're not switching between 512MB of VRAM and 256MB. You're switching between graphics processors.

mine is 2.53 ghz with 256/512mb gpu

just got a brand new mac book pro latest generation mac book pro 15 that came with factory gpu 256 and 512 again how can i see the setting or able to control?

Same answer as above, system prefs, energy saver, better battery life or, better performance.

If you have the 2.4GHz processor, you have the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 256MB of VRAM. If you have the 2.53 or 2.8GHz, you have the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB of VRAM. You can switch between that and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of shared VRAM. YOU CANNOT SWITCH BETWEEN VRAM AMOUNTS! You are selecting which graphics processor you're using. Are you not reading the posts in this thread?

go to the "energy saver preferences" and change to "higher performance"
then you will log out and you will be on the 9600gt with 512mb video card.

Dude, you can't switch between 256 and 512 VRAM...

You CAN switch between the GeForce 9400 integrated graphics and GeForce 9600 dedicated graphics. How to switch has already been said in this thread at least 2 times.

The integrated one uses 256 MB from main system memory and is at least 2 times slower, but saves battery power. The dedicated one has its own 512 MB of memory and runs much faster, but drains more power.

I got it thanks!

Yes you guys are right that I need to go engery saver and go advance to change from there. Thanks being patince with me and I got it yes I notice the difference the graphics.
