So I have the iPhone 5 and iPad Air, iPad mini with retina display. How do I set up these devices so that I can make phone call and send text message on iPad and my Macs? Currently I tried to send text message on my iPad Air and it will not send. My iPad also will not pick up phone calls. Is there any settings that I missed? Or does it happens automatically?

In FaceTime (make sure you are logged in), go to preferences and then at the bottom, make sure that it is set start calls from your phone number. Also, make sure that iPhone and iPad Air are set up to allow messaging and making calls under settings. Once you are logged into the same account on all devices and have them set up, you should be good to go except for SMS relay, which is currently turned off by Apple.

You should get a pop up message on one of your devices once you log in and set things up.
