Hi everyone,

My dad gave me his iPod Nano -- I believe it's a 5th generation -- and I can't figure out how to set it up. I downloaded iTunes, and whenever I try to delete a song or import anything, it won't let me. My dad doesn't remember his Apple username or password because he hasn't used the iPod for about two years. Help!

Thanks!
Julie

The iPod nano can only sync to one iTunes library at a time. You need to use your dad's Apple ID and password signed onto iTunes before you can sync the iTunes nano. After you log on iTunes, you might be able to "import purchases". Import purchases means if anything on the iPod nano is purchased content from apple , it will automatically transfer back to itunes.

Remember. Itunes is mostly one way. Music and stuff goes from your itunes library to your iPod. It does not normally go the opposite way. You fill up your itunes library the way you want it, and then you sync it to the iPod nano, erasing all the songs that were on it before.

If you want to be able to use the iPod nano as it is with his music, you will probably need his id and password if you want to do anything itunes related.

There are utilities like copy transfer manager that might be able to help you

That's the problem, he doesn't remember his ID or password. I tried to retrieve it with the "forgot password" feature, but even that doesn't work. Ugh! Why do they have to make these things so freaking complicated??

Ideas

Go to his computer go to itunes and cllck on store or click on account to see if the account is there?
Does he have a Mac? Try digging around Keychain access or safari passwords for it
Call apple care. If its an itunes issue. They might be able to look up the Apple ID ??
Itunes calls are not charged a fee

I never really messed around with ipad nanos. I am sorry I am not more help

If he has his computer and itunes that the iPod nano was set to, he is okay and can change the password

[doublepost=1468276965][/doublepost]Another idea

You do can still back it up to any computer. You cant sync it. You can only sync to one library at a time. The backup wont go into your library, but the theory is you can maybe mess around and then restore it??

I am not 100% of this, but I say this as someone who has *some* iTunes tagged music with other people's iTunes usernames. You should be able to drag whatever songs you'd like from his computer, to yours by just drag and dropping stuff onto a thumb drive or whatever because they're just tagged, but don't have the DRM that would make it ask for login information.

If you manage to do that ^ and they play fine in the iTunes on your machine, just restore the iPod and you'll be good to go to sync those tracks and whatever else you're wanting.

Well, evidently all I had to do was close iTunes and restart it, and I was able to reset the iPod. LOL!! So now I finally got it working for me. Thanks for all your feedback! :D
