I just had the misfortune to buy a Lexmark Prevail Pro750 all-in-one fax, printer, copier. As they are on sale in Ireland and the box says they are Mac compatible, maybe someone else might be having trouble with the setup.

The software provided is out of date, the Lexmark websites are very user-unfriendly but it is in fact possible to get the thing to work.

A. Before unpacking the machine, do the following.

1. Go to http://www.lexmark.ie
2. Go to Support and Downloads
3. Go to Select Your Product
4. Type in Lexmark Prevail Pro705. The spelling must be exactly correct or the site will not find the product.
5. At the top of the page to the right of the Lexmark logo there is a link, probably for UK. Click on this and it will take you to a page where you can select Ireland as the country of location.
6. This takes you to the page containing links for correct drivers and Firmware. Download both.

B. Installation

1. Run the WebInstaller package
2. Follow the instructions for unpacking the machine and connecting to computer with supplied USB cable.
3. If you try to set up wireless it probably won't work. You first have to set it up to connect via USB.
4. Once The driver for USB has been setup, Go to System Prefs and click + button to add a new printer
5. Pro700 Series will be there having been setup for USB. Select it, go to print using, go to select printer software and select Lexmark Pro700 Series and set it up.
7. The wifi installer would still not work so I opened the print queue and clicked on Printer setup and chose Show printer webpage. (You might have to get the IP address of the actual fax if you can't do it the way I did.)
8. After setting this section up I was able to run the wireless installer successfully.
9. Finally set up another print queue selecting Lexmark Pro700 Series Fax. I had to have the cable disconnected at this point
10. Then ran Printer settings from the tools folder which setup enables you to instal in the dock which finished the install process
11. At this point after plugging in the phoneline to the wall the machine worked correctly to fax, print, scan wirelessly and with cables.

The process of navigating the confused website to find the correct drivers etc for Ireland and messing with different settings took 14 hours so what I have written here is the best I can recall after an all-night marathon. I could not find anything very helpful on the web so hope this will be of benefit to someone else. Hopefully the next few victims can tidy up the process in this thread.

Cheers.
