I have my Mail set up on my iMac and below the list of mailboxes is an area that says "Mail Activity" that indicates when mail is being sent or received. In addition to that, I can go to the menu of "Window/Activity" and show a separate Activity window if I wanted (I wouldn't want that).

On the other hand, my macbook Air doesn't have the Mail Activity panel burned into the Mail interface and I can't figure out how to turn it on in the preferences.

Both computers are running Lion OS.

Thanks for explaining the solution.
