Hello everybody! I have an iPhone 3g and a 200 sms plan with AT&T. I am afraid that I will go over my SMS limit and have to pay extra. My question a how do you keep track of your messages on your iPhone? How do u know how many SMS you have sent or received? or how do you check with AT&T (for example, you can dial #646* to check minutes)? Thank you in advance!

if you have a jailbroken iphone, you can install bitesms which keeps track of how many texts you've sent.

This may be a bit much for what you're asking but you could install Pageonce from the App Store and add your AT&T account (are you on AT&T??).

It's a pretty nice detailed view of minutes/text usage, a bar illustrating your usage and predicted usage for the remainder of the billing cycle, and how much time remains in that cycle. I'm super impressed with it as it's more detailed than AT&T's page.

PLUS you can add all kinds of other accounts for it to check at the same time.

There is now tool for check the number of SMS you've sent. You can only check how many minutes you've called and how much data you have used.

I think there are a few tools for checking SMS usage on a jailbroken iPhone. Otherwise, you'll have to use the ATT tools.

so does *data# show text usage & data usage? Sorry but I'm not near my iPhone.
Yes, dial that, and you'll get a text back from AT&T showing how many messages you've used.

Quite simple option really, I don't know why people are suggesting all this other stuff.

I agree with yg17

ive used *data# since the first day I got my iPhone

The easiest way to go about it is to add it as a contact and put it in your favorites screen. Once you do this just tap the name and a free text is automatically sent to you from att with all of your data usage and how many texts you have left.
