Whilst I can see the advantages of leaving it as one drive the truth is in hindsight I think in my use scenario I would rather split them apart.

I mainly download torrents and watch movies and you can be sure that after a few weeks I will have so much stuff it will start using the hard disk and may get louder with the fan as I leave it downloading over night.

Splitting up the drives mean I can use the SSD only for downloading and store everything in the HDD. It makes sense to me. Its better to do it now when wiping the mac isn't a big deal as there isn't much on it.

How do I do it and then install OSX to the SSD?

Spinstorm have you split your fusion drive yet? Any black magic results on the split fusion drive ssd?
