Right off the bat, this is for my work Lenovo computer, so it's not specifically a Mac accessory, so if this should go somewhere else, mods please feel free to move it.

I have a work Windows 10 laptop and a plantronics headset. The issue that I have is that if I use the 3.5mm jack on the side of the laptop, with either the plantronics headset or a pair of EarPods, the volume of me talking is VERY low. If I use the USB adapter that came with the plantronics, the volume is much louder. (using the Microphone test in the settings app, I get 2-3 as the max volume with the jack, and 13 with the USB).

I'm trying to get away for using the plantronics USB cord because it's super long & gets in the way. I can obviously live with it, but if there is a simple solution, I'd prefer to just use my EarPods (3.5mm version).

I bought a generic 3.5mm to USB adapter off amazon, but when I plug it it, I still only get 2-3 as the output. I just bought an Audio Technica ATX2x-USB adapter, but didn't realize that it has separate inputs for the headphone piece and the mic piece, so I can either talk or listen through that, but not both. Ideally, I'd like to find some kind of adapter to go between the EarPods & the Audi Technica piece that would split the input from the output, or else just find a direct USB to 3.5mm adapter that boosts the volume from the microphone or else has a driver that will allow it to work with the Windows 10 built-in amplify option.

I've tried looking online for other ideas, but I don't see a lot of info out there. There is some kind of amplify setting in Windows 10, but it doesn't seem to work with a lot of devices (if they don't have the right drivers?), so I havne't been able to boost my audio that way. I don't want this to turn into a huge project with a separate mic & headphones, so if that's the only option, I'll just stick with the plantronics, but wanted to see if anyone else has any ideas on how to work around this issue,

Thanks in advance,

I used to use a pair of Apple wired EarPods on my Dell desktop without any problems with the mic (at least none that have been reported to me on Zoom/WebEx). Might be a Lenovo audio driver issue.

Dang it, thanks. I was hoping that wasn't the case, as IT has all of that stuff locked down so I can't update the drivers or do anything like that. Thanks for the confirmation though, that at least helps me narrow down the issue.
