Hi all,

I have just bought the 2017 MacBook Pro 13". I noticed that when I lift the lid when it is booted down, it automatically starts up. Also, there is no power key on the keyboard anywhere.

I presume the new MacBook Pro is designed to automatically boot up when the lid is lifted and the computer is booted down? If this weren't to work for any reason, how can I boot it up manually, using a key on the keyboard?

Thank you!

If the MBP is with Touch Bar, you have to press the Touch ID button to turn on your MBP. Otherwise, there is a power button in the top corner of the keyboard on the non-TB series.

Best regards!

Favourite question of the day!

To power on the MacBook you hit the power button. If it's in standby (booted down...) it will wake back up when opening (As does any laptop). Otherwise if it is shut down, you need to power it on with the power button (Again, any laptop).

The power button is always in the top right, here's a handy guide Apple has put together https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201150

The power button is on the right side of the touchbar (before you ask: it does nothing when you press it while it's already on, that is by design). And yes indeed, the Macbooks will now start automatically upon opening the lid.
