This is a topic that i have needed to know for about a month to 2 months now.
I have seen a lot of people including me who are scared to update through iTunes and don't know what to do to update their iPhone in fear of bricking or boot-looping.
With the help of 2 people on these forums yesterday and today i found out how and did it with no problems whatsoever!
Step 1. Make sure your hosts file DOES NOT Have Sauriks IP with the (XXX-XXX-XXX gs.apple.com) thing in it!!
That was critical because you WILL encounter errors with it in there!
Step 2. Make sure you let it back up.
Step 3. Plug the iPhone into iTunes and click update.
Step 4. Enjoy your non-jailbroken iPhone.
If you want it jailbroken again just use greenpois0n or limera1n depending on the device you are using.
More precautions to take are to make sure that your iphones carrier is back to normal because some people get the update and then the fake carrier name would stick.
Thank-you, Jamie.
