How to stop preview from automatically opening on downloading jpg/pdf

Old MBP was stolen (still running Yosemite). Got a new MBP with EC on it. Started fresh.

Overtime I download a JPG or PDF, Preview automatically opens with the photo or document.

How can I stop this?

Try Safari >> Preferences >> General tab, uncheck Open Safe Files.
