How to stop VLC from playing movies automatically when I open them?

OK, this drives me INSANE: whenever I open a movie with VLC, it starts playing the movie as soon as it opens. I don't want that, I never ever want that!

I've searched through the preferences and Googled and I can't for the life of me find how to stop it from doing this. Any help is appreciated.

Running 10.5.8 PPC with the latest version of VLC.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it, more or less.
