I just want to play DVDs and video streams from the macbook pro through my TV monitor

Can anyone suggest the simplest way to to this ? Some are telling me that I need to buy a costly "converter box" and like 5 other pieces of equipment (totaling close to $200)

Am I correct that I will need a VGA to S -video cable ? If so, is this a simple purchase ? I've got the mac adapter but just need to know what kind of cable is needed to play video/audio from the laptop through the monitor.

Any advice appreciated

Is it a CRT TV, LCD, type of inputs that it has? etc.

If it's LCD there may be a VGA connection, or DVI. Also, HDMI connection would be good, then you need a DVI to HDMI cable.

If it's CRT, then you can use S-Video if your tv has an S-video input, and a 1/8" audio to RCA audio to put audio into your TV.

Best of luck
