how to swap hard drives

Ok I have A MacBookPro 13" about 2 years old now and the hard drive is full of pics ..Now what I would like to do is take all the stuff on this hard drive and put it on A larger hard drive lets say A 500 gig. since I have A 250gig ..how do I clone all the data so when I put the new hard drive in it will boot up with everything including the os just with more room?

Put the new drive in an external enclosure, then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your hard drive onto the new drive. Then swap the drives.

The other thing I do - to be sure the cloning is good - is to boot off the external drive (the just cloned drive) before installing it into the laptop.
