How to swipe between mail messages?

In the past, while using the classic layout in mail, users could use a three finger swipe to move between mail messages. In fact, users can still do this if they set Swipe Between Pages to use Swipe with three fingers.

What I am curious is about is if it is still possible to swipe/move between mail messages with a gestures if users set Swipe Between Pages to use Scroll left or right with two fingers?
