How to switch on the fly graphics card?

Is there a way to switch on-the-fly graphic card settings between the 9400m and the 9600m without logging on and off?

No.

Mac OS X still has to restart the WindowServer process, thus a logout is required.

Thanks, didn't know that they finally managed it. Although System Preferences needs a restart after switching via gfxcardstatus to properly show the used card.

I just tested it via Cinebench, only a restart of that program after a switch confirmed the work of gfsxcardstatus.

You also have to restart the application, which profits from the GPU, after a switch, if it is running during the switch.
