Hello,

simply put, iOS 12.x on my old iPhone 7, sometimes I just want to have data when around without being reachable on phone, when I hike for example I don't want to be bothered but still prefer to have data on to, say, check a map or whatever else, any way to accomplish this?

Grazie

It isn't possible to "turn off" the mobile part while still having data (well, unless it's via WiFi). Your choices are (1) mute (2) do not disturb (3) call forwarding to voicemail.

If you don't want to be disturbed then the aptly named "do not disturb" would seem best as otherwise even if you could turn off the "phone" while keeping data on, you would still receive facetime/whatsapp calls etc.

I thought it not being possible and, yes, when I am in Flight Mode with wifi on there still is the chance somebody calling through either WhatsApp or FaceTime so I guess I will have to keep it off and switch briefly on to check whatever I need to.

Grazie everybody and have a great beginning of the new year

Sounds like Do Not Disturb is what you'd want to use.
