i have Chrome as a default browser but when i click on "search with google" from any other program, search gets performed in Safari. How to disable it?

Change it in Safari preferences:

Open Safari, go to preferences. Click the "General" tab.
Select Chrome as your default browser.
 
Thanks for the reply, but Chrome is selected there as the default browser, and yet system keeps using Safari

That is a "system service" and you can't change it.

You can use Automator to make a new system service to do what you want. Try this process.
