iPod How to Sync Songs on Mac

I’m running the latest version of macOS and when plugging in my iPods (a bunch of different ones), Finder will show the iPod as if it’s a disk drive, but never like an actual iPod to sync songs. When I open Apple Music, no device shows up in there. Help appreciated.
