Hey guys, I just got an iPad Mini Black/Slate with iOS 6 on ebay. how do I know if its fake or if its a Android imitation?

-I will check the serial number at apple website. I will input once before activation and a second time after activation. What should I look for on the results?

-I will also "iMessage" my father's iPad, wich as far as I know can only happen between Apple products. If imessage works, is it a proof its real, or would Android be able to mimic this?

-I will also go to iCloud.com on a mac and send a "beep' to the ipad. Again, could android mimic this?

No such thing as a perfect imitation. Only apple hardware can run ios and apps from App Store . Simple as that.

Avoid buying on Ebay. Simple. There are too many scammers there. That said I've never seen a fake iPad but there are tons of scammers selling stolen ones with "Activation lock" on.

How do I do this? It can be a perfect imitation...

That's something of an ages old philosophical debate. Is a "perfect" copy not in fact the real thing?

But seriously, another OS can not perfectly imitate iOS. If it looks and behaves like an iOS device, it's a safe bet that it is one.

I don't know. In the world of designer handbags there is a class of counterfeits called "Superfakes" because they are near perfect copies of the real thing and almost impossible to spot.

Ya but a bag is just a bag, while an iPad is NOT a phone.

A google search turned up this for imitation iPad. It is a French site and couldn't read the article.

There was an incident where people would buy ipads at Walmart and then take the ipad out of its box, put something back in its place so it weighs right, shrinkwrap the box and return it to the store. THEN, walmart would put them back out for sale since they thought it wasnt opened.
