iPod touch How to tell if LCD is damaged?

So today I dropped my Ipod touch 5th generation and cracked the screen.

Is there a way I can tell if I need to replace the LCD, or just the glass?

On the 5th generation the lcd and the glass are laminated together and can't be replaced separately, I believe.
