How to tell whether your macbook is first batch or second batch..etc from serial no.?

I am starting to hear some whining/ whiirrring after 1 day of use (macbook)

Just wondering is it meant to be fully silent whn i am just surfing with safari?

Coz mine isnt...noback ground apps running tho

The wining may be caused by the iSight. Open and close PhotoBooth, and it might stop the whining. My mac mini's fan also spins while I am browsing the web (but i have adium and mail open 24/7)
