Hi guys!
Since yesterday evening I'm the proud owner of an Apple Watch LTE 40mm in Space Grey. I paired it to my new iPhone 11 pro and everything is sailing smoothly. I just have one question.
The Watch can connect over cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth. It can use cellular and WiFi while the paired iPhone is not around, and Bluetooth when it is. When it's connected to the iPhone over Bluetooth, the two devices exchange information and share the iPhone's connectivity. That is how I understood it.
Let's say, I wanted to disconnect the Watch from the iPhone temporarily, e.g. having them both in the same room and possibly on the same WiFi network (and therefore connected to the world) but not communicating to each other. How would I proceed? Is it even possible?
Thanks!

Either turn off Bluetooth on the phone or turn on Airplane mode on the watch.
Thank you for your reply!
I activated Airplane Mode on the watch, the phone icon in the command center goes red for a few seconds and then turns green again. I can then ping the phone, so it's definitely connected. I think Airplane mode on the watch does not turn bluetooth off, is that normal?
EDIT: Turning off Bluetooth on the phone (completely, from settings) also doesn't work. The phone says that, by disabling bluetooth, the Watch won't be able to receive notifications. Still, the phone icon on the watch stays green and I can ping the phone. I don't quite get it!

Airplane mode doesn’t turn off Bluetooth unless you set it to.

As to your point about pinging the watch, are you trying to make sure the watch won’t respond to pinging? If not, don’t worry about it. What exactly are you trying to accomplish anyway?
Thanks for the link, that sheds some light!

I just noticed, If I turn Bluetooth off on the watch, but keep WiFi connected, the ping button in the control center becomes available again but does not work. The phone and the watch are on the same WiFi network. Is this supposed to happen?

Except gps-sharing, they will also exchange information over WiFi and LTE.
