How to tile/mosaic windows in Mac OS X?

I want to be able to tile all open windows in Mac OS X so none of the windows overlap and they take up as much screen estate as possible ...

Exposé is not an option, because there's too much space in between the windows.

Anyone have an idea? Maybe by launching an AppleScript?
