I saved an AVCHD folder onto my hard drive. It was copied from a friend's HD Canon camcorder card. Can I get this into FCE 4 somehow or do I need the original camera?

if you can convert it in to a .mov (quicktime file) your golden
PS what version of toast are you using?

Yes, I was able to use Toast 9 to test convert a file into a 1920x1080 quicktime movie that's readable by FCE! Thanks. (I hope that's the proper resolution setting)

Use FCE's Log & Transfer

FCE can easily import the .mts files from your friend's Canon avchd camcorder but you either need to mount the camera directly, use an SDHC card reader with the card or make a disk image of the card with Toast 10 and mount it. I've also heard you can just save the entire card's contents to a folder but I have not tried that. I like the Toast 10 options as it serves as my archive too. What is required in any case is that the full hierarchy of files be present, not just individual .mts files.

With the files available, use FCE's Log & Transfer. You can preview each clip and set multiple in and out points before importing.
