How to transfer my email to new Apple MacBook Air from Outlook? Use Gmail?

The situation is this:
I am totally new to Apple. Just got a new MacBook Air the other day. I have over 12GB of email files in Outlook on my old computer. It goes through GoDaddy.

How do I best transfer my email from my Outlook to my MacBook Air? I want to bring all of it in. Should I import into a Gmail account and then import into my Apple?

Google something like "transfer outlook to Mac" or "export outlook to Mac". There are several ways, some using paid for apps, some using free programs like Thunderbird. Also search in here for outlook this comes up quite often.

Do know if you are using Exchange, pop or IMAP?

Here is the wizard for Google third part email settings.

Yahoo is a paid server if you willing to pay Yahoo for third party email access.
