Using Firefox to read MacRumors, I noticed the font looked different.

I launched Font Book and under "All Fonts", it only showed about 10 fonts total.

For troubleshooting, I created another user account on my system. When I logged on as that user, Font Book showed the normal amount of fonts (way more than 10).

I tried rebooting normally and rebooting in safe mode, ... neither brought the fonts back for my regular user account.

I had recently made an bootable backup of my system, so I plugged in that FireWire drive and booted off of it. Font Book showed the correct amount of fonts for my regular user account.

I shutdown, unplugged that drive, and booted up normal. All of a sudden my regular user account has all of the fonts back.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what might have happened that brought them back?

What's the normal troubleshooting method if you have one user account that doesn't have all of the fonts, but other user accounts do? Is there a user pref file for fonts?

Thanks for any advice! It was a very humbling experience for someone who thought they were becoming proficient with OS X!
