How to tune desktop speakers?

Hi everyone!

I wasnt able to find anything on google and I know absolutely nothing about sound and tuning or anything like that but i have these really crappy cheap desktop speakers (im talkin no brand name like 8 years old that came with an old pc) and until i can afford new ones im wondering the best way to tune them such as:

-Best macbook pro output volume
-Best volume on the speakers
-Best base setting on speakers
-Best treble setting on speakers

Crappy speakers can't really be tuned. You can adjust equalizers but that's not the same.

For example, if your speaker can only produce
80 Hz - 15 kHz, then no amount of tuning or equalization can make it produce a better range such as 20 Hz - 20 kHz

What Consultant said is true, but here are the answers to your questions:

-Best macbook pro output volume

Maximum. Always. Turning the volume up all the way on the computer and then adjusting it to a comfortable level with the speaker volume control will produce the least undesired noise in the sound.

-Best volume on the speakers

As noted above, whatever is comfortable.

-Best base setting on speakers
-Best treble setting on speakers

Whatever sounds the best to your ears with whatever you're listening to. There's only so much you can do, but your best bet is to play some music and just fiddle with the adjustments until it sounds as good as you can get.

Generally turning up the bass helps on small speakers, but they can also start to vibrate or just sound muddy depending on just how bad they are.

okay thanks ALOT! i just done know how to adjust the treble like the base i have at a comfortible setting but i cant seem to find a sweetspot for the treble it either sounds like its in a distant tin can or sounds very like "sharp" and seems to take away from the base. sorry for the noobish description lol so far having the treble turned to 75% seems to be okay

The problem with my speakers is that the amp is rather overpowered, so even a comfortable listening volume is extremely close to the bottom. I have to have the system output volume set to around 50% so that I can adjust the speakers' volume without the slightest touch blasting me with a wall of sound or cutting the sound off altogether. I also like to leave the output down a bit so that I can adjust the volume with my remote while watching movies and such.
