Okay, so I currently have a 17inch MBP from late 2010. I just purchased a Retina MBP 15 inch.

I want to take my hard drive from my 17 inch and put it in some enclosure that allows thunderbolt. What do you guys recommend as far as which enclosure to get.

I am assuming the HD in my 17 inch is a 2.5 inch drive, but what kind of connection does it have? esata?

The drive has a sata connection, not esata. Put it in any cheap usb3 enclosure. No reason to use thunderbolt as the enclosures cost much more and a spinning hard drive won't max out either interface, so you won't see any speed difference between the two.
