I am trying to find a notifications on/off switch, but I don't see one anywhere in settings. This is what I see:

Where is the on/off switch to turn off all push notifications at the same time?

You can click on each little app in that list and tell it not to do notifications. Turn all of those sliders off.

This is one of the most irritating things about iOS 5. While I love the notification center concept, having no way to temporarily turn off all notifications is a big design flaw. All the workarounds (turn wifi off, turn data off, etc) are not what we are looking for. No one wants to go into 20 or more individual notifications to do this!

For jailbreakers there was a push notifications toggle in ios4, but even that doesn't work or us now.

I believe the "Do not disturb" feature coming in iOS6 addresses this problem.
