How can I turn off the edge network, so I can use WiFi only.

I'm at home right now and want to use WiFi insted of Edge. I turned Wifi on but it seems that the iPhone is still using AT&T's Edge Network.

Obviously I can remove the SIM card to achive this but, Im almost sure that's not how Apple intended it.

Thanks,

When there is an available WiFi network the iPhone will always use WiFi instead of EDGE.

DON'T DO THAT! I had a similar problem. For some reason, my WiFi has been having very poor broadcasting, and my iPhone just couldn't find it. Conversely, driving through the city, the iPhone picks up WiFi left and right... so I knew it wasn't the iPhone. I got an Air Port Extreme to replace my pevious DLink router, and all my problems vanished. I can even use my laptop further away with less struggling for being in "just the right spot". It's awesome. So, check that your WiFi router is working right. If the iPhone can't get ANYTHING through WiFi, then it'll use EDGE. I can't see any reason to turn EDGE off... that's totally not connected to the fact that iPhone isn't picking up your WiFi network.

As noted, the phone will automatically use available wifi, bypassing the Edge. But even when you're using wifi, you need Edge, because that's how you send and receive SMS and visual voicemail -- so the Edge is always on, and can't be turned off.

Disable Edge on Iphone

ok here is what you do... i got charged..just connecting to edge by mistake....
open safari from your iphone and go to www.iphonenodata.com
and install Disable EDGE. install it and simply edge is disabled.
do uninstall go to settings>general>profile...
its simple... good luck

Go into settings put your phone into airplane mode then tap wifi and turn it on.

If I was to use this, I'm presuming I can still send and receive text messages?

What about picture messages?

You need either edge or 3G to get any phone related service. Text and picture messages are phone related services.
