How to turn off "recents" at top of display????

I know someone posted about this a week or two ago. I could not really follow what they were talking about. But it really is annoying. I would love to turn that off. Can anyone explain how to turn that off?

Settings - Mail, Contacts and Calendars - Show in App Switcher
