How did u upgrade your baseband but didn't jb yet? The same tool that upgraded your bb version will jb your device. Redsnow.
I have jailbreaked it yesterday and had the cyndia icon on my phone i clicked on it and it just blinked white(couldnt open it). I decided to restore it... When i used Itunes to restore it it got stuck in the recovery mode and I kept getting an error 1015 message. I then downloaded 4.1 used that for getting my phone in to DFU mode, then used iTunes and a custom 4.2.1 ipsw file to restore it. And now I ended up here..
If you have a new bootrom 3GS then your stuck with the tethered JB for now.
You have to run Redsnow each time you need to restart or if you run out of battery.

One more question... I am in redsnow and i am selecting the things that i want to install.. since i already have 06.15 on my phone do i need to install iPad baseband or not?

Now i got it set up, unlocked it with ultrasn0w trhough cydia(+2software update) and now i have an unlokced 3gs... and it even works with my foreign (european) sim card..! thanks for the link

Oh dear I'm not up on all the techno jargon but I followed the instructions in the link above and learned I had the newer version so will have to wait for an untethered jailbreak.
It should be fine if your battery doesnt die right? Thats the only downfall that you have to reboot in theteeed mode if ur battery dies?

Yep, pretty much.
Maybe carry an external battery pack with you or a charger just in case.
Other than that you can still survive with it.

Ultrasn0w doesn't work on baseband 05.15. If you want to unlock your phone now, the only way is to upgrade your iphone baseband to 06.15 which is Ipad baseband, then unlock with Ultrasn0w 1.2. However, before you do so, please read. A good place to start is dev team blog.
V expensive mind - just put in my details, $ 217.52 US Dollars to unlock UK o2 phone, which is fact free if you request it from o2 themselves.
